Description

Hobbs Hill Farmhouse is a late medieval timber-framed house with a later, probably 17th-century, extension to the east. The older part of the house, most visible from the rear, is two storeys high with two windows, and has an irregular appearance. It has a tiled roof, hipped on the left with a ridge gablet. A compound chimney stack is located on the right side. It is thought that one bay may have been removed, as the roof now ends in a gable. The first floor is tile hung, while the ground floor is red brick. A rubble basement exists beneath the structure. The eastern extension is two storeys high with an attic and one window, with a chimney at the back. There is a lean-to roof behind this extension. Windows are a mix of 18th-century and modern leaded iron casements. The interior retains much exposed timber and includes an inglenook fireplace with freestone jambs. An old upstairs fireplace is constructed of chamfered brick. The roof structure features side purlins and wind braces to a queen post roof. There was originally a smoke bay, with a chimney built inside it at a later date.
