Description
Scords Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with parts added in the 19th century. The original house is only one room deep and features a long east-facing front that is two storeys high with three windows. The ends of the building have long blank walls, with the left side featuring a projecting chimney. The walls are made of random rubble with red brick quoins and dressings, likely from the 18th century, and the first floor is tile hung. The south entrance front also has two storeys and three windows, with a returned gable on the right, marking the end of the original structure. The building is set on two levels to follow the slope of the hill. The 19th-century casement windows are mostly three-light. Inside, a significant portion of the timber-framed back of the original house remains intact, showcasing stout timbers, plaster filling, and two small windows with close-set diagonal wood mullions. There is an inglenook fireplace and old quarry tiles on the floor, along with carved beams in the attic.
