Description
Mount Pleasant Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse with a probable core dating back to the 16th century, or possibly the 15th century, and substantial alterations in the 17th century. It originally comprised three rooms arranged around a central entrance. The house is two storeys high with attics, and has a plain-tiled roof topped by a red brick chimney dating from the 17th or early 18th century. Most of the windows are small-paned casements installed in the mid-20th century. A gabled entrance porch, also from the 20th century, has a half-glazed panelled door.
On the left side of the entrance is a parlour with massive exposed floor joists characteristic of the early 16th century. The hall and service rooms have exposed 17th-century on-edge floor joists, which appear to have been inserted into an older structure. A central chimney, dating from the 17th or 18th century, serves lintelled open fireplaces in the hall and parlour. The roof was rebuilt in the 18th century, incorporating attics, and a two-storey wing was added to the rear in the 19th century.
