Description

Corner Cottage, part of the larger Chartlands property, is a timber-framed house dating from the 16th century or earlier, significantly altered over time. The right-hand part of the house was separated to form the separate dwelling of Chartlands, and includes a two-storey, two-window lower right extension. The left bay dates to the 18th century, and the right to the early 19th century.

Corner Cottage itself is two storeys and has an attic; it has three irregular windows. It features a large, high-pitched tiled roof, hipped on the left side, with two flat, modern dormers. A compound ridge stack is present. The timber framing is exposed, showcasing stout posts and arch braces. The first floor is plastered, while the ground floor has brick infilling of various dates. The windows are a mix of casement types. A modern, one-storey extension links to a two-storey pavilion on the left.

Chartlands, the right wing of the original house, has had its roof altered from hipped to gable-ended. It is two storeys high with three closely-spaced windows on the first floor. The first floor is weatherboarded, while the ground floor is constructed of large, random rubble and red brick. The windows are modern casements, and it has a plain boarded front door. A lower tiled roof covers the right part of Chartlands. The left bay of this section has a tile-hung first floor and random rubble ground floor, while the right bay is of red brick laid in an end diaper pattern with blue headers. Further casement windows are present, and a pent extension with a small front projection sits on the right-hand side.
