Description

Keeper’s Cottage is a 16th-century building with later additions. It is situated on the west side of Hosey Lane in Westerham. The west-facing front of the cottage has two storeys and three windows. It features a steeply pitched tiled roof, with a half-hip to the right and a central cruciform chimney. A new cross-wing has been added to the left, designed as a replica of the original. The first floor is tile-hung, while the ground floor is brick over a timber frame. The base of the cottage is built of galletted ragstone rubble, with a stepped brick plinth coping covered by tiles and rendered in places. A modern pent porch has been added, constructed from reclaimed materials. The windows are renewed wood casements, with two and three lights and glazing bars. On the south and east walls, the original timber framing is visible, with variations in the studding and brick infill. A single-storey glazed sun-lounge has been added to the rear. Inside, substantial timberwork is exposed, including heavy posts and tie beams, along with some restored brick fireplaces. Much of the downstairs woodwork has been restored, and linenfold and other panelling has been imported from elsewhere.
