Description

West Yoke Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse that was refronted in 1681, with the date and initials "RM" above the front door. It was extended by one bay in the early 20th century and refenestrated in the late 20th century. The building is timberframed and has a red brick facade with grey headers in Flemish bond, along with tile-hanging to the first floor. The roof is tiled, hipped, and features a catslide to the rear, together with a clustered brick chimneystack dating back to the late 16th century. The farmhouse follows a lobby entrance plan and has two storeys and three windows on the north, or entrance, front. This front has 20th-century casement windows in original openings, with cambered head linings to the ground floor. A wide doorcase opposite the chimneystack features an original flat wooden hood on brackets, sheltering a plank door. The facade incorporates a moulded wooden cornice and a plat band. The west front displays 18th-century brickwork to both floors. The south elevation, now the entrance front, has a catslide roof extending to the southwest.

Inside, the hall has stone flooring and a late 18th-century winder staircase. The sitting room contains a late 18th-century six-panelled door and a round-headed wooden china cabinet. An open fireplace may be concealed behind the 20th-century replacement. The dining room features an open fireplace with a wooden shelf and an 18th-century gun rack, as well as a spine beam with two-inch chamfer and run-out stops. The first floor retains wide floorboards, a late 17th-century cupboard in one bedroom, and exposed wall framing and partitions. The roof is constructed of oak and is of queenpost type with purlins, and reportedly includes a valley gutter.
