Description
The Parish Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, located in New Ash Green, is a Grade I listed building dating from the 13th to the 15th centuries, with restoration work carried out by Sir T G Jackson between 1901 and 1903. The church is constructed from flint with ragstone and sandstone dressings. The chancel and the west tower date back to the 13th century, while the upper part of the tower and the turret are made of red brick. The church features a three-bay nave and aisles, which are from the 14th century but were restored in 1472, likely when the south aisle was widened. The north aisle boasts a fine Decorated east window with ogee forms and spherical triangles. The south porch, possibly from 1472, includes a stoup. Inside, there is an impressive crown post roof over the nave supported by trefoliated brackets, an early Perpendicular chancel arch, and a Perpendicular font. Notable interior features include a brass of a priest in half-length, a hanging monument to Dr. Maxfield from around 1605, and two tablets commemorating Thomas and Sophia Lambard from 1813, created by John Bacon Junior. Additionally, there is a piscina in the south aisle.
