Description
Filston Hall Farmhouse is a large manor farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century, as indicated by the stone above the entrance, although much of the interior is from the early 17th century, with a section that features late medieval timber framing. The farmhouse has an irregular shape and is surrounded by a medieval moat, accessed from the west side via an old medieval bridge. The main elevation, which faces south, has a recently restored brick facade that is three storeys high, with masked brick gable ends and half basement lights. The windows are restored mullioned and transomed styles, featuring square paned and lattice casements, and there are Tudor brick coupled stacks. The elevation facing west is two storeys tall, with a ridge tile roof and a tiled gable end on the left. Inside, the farmhouse boasts some very fine panelling and an exceptionally fine staircase, reflecting a Jacobean character throughout, although the kitchen wing is considerably older. There are also some original mullioned and transomed windows with old iron casements, a 17th-century cellar, and a complete crown post roof in the north wing.
