Description
Chantlers is an early 16th century house that has undergone alterations and consists of two sections. It is two storeys high with a total of four irregularly placed windows. The building features a high-pitched, half-hipped tiled roof, with the right section being shorter and higher, topped with an early 17th century ridge stack. This part of the house has always had an attic, although the old window has been blocked. The first floor is tile hung, while the ground floor is made of 19th century red brick with a pattern of blue headers, and there is a rendered plinth. The windows include 19th century and modern casements. There is a 17th century lean-to at the back with one dormer that has a low sweeping profile. Inside, there are heavy exposed timbers, including swell head posts with a long profile, beams with wide chamfers, and a complete inglenook. Remnants of old diagonal-barred windows can also be seen. The roof structure is very heavy, featuring side purlins with wind braces and stout collars.
