Description

Village House is an early 19th century building that once served as a dower house for the Halstead Place estate. It stands three storeys tall and features three windows. The exterior is made of red brick with random blue headers and has a moderately low pitched, hipped slate roof with eaves soffit. The windows are recessed sash types with glazing bars, topped by gauged flat red brick arches. On the ground floor to the right, there is a late 19th century canted bay window. The entrance door consists of six headed panels set in a panelled reveal, surrounded by a moulded architrave and topped with a cornice hood supported by carved console brackets. There is a modern low extension on the left and a 19th century two-storey, three-window extension on the right. Inside, there are traces of an older core, including a much restored early 18th century staircase with new treads and handrail, a carved pine fireplace surround, and some moulded cornices. The kitchen wing is constructed of flint with brick dressings.
