Description

The Old Rectory is likely a 16th-century house that was heavily altered in the early 18th century. The front range is two storeys high and now has three windows, although remnants suggest it was originally designed with four symmetrically placed windows. It is constructed of red brick, with a high-pitched, half-hipped tiled roof and an off-centre chimney. An L-shape is created by a right return, which incorporates an internal addition dating to the second quarter of the 19th century, and two further two-storey gabled red-brick additions from the third quarter of the 19th century. At the time of these alterations, the house was entirely refenestrated, and a gabled wooden porch was added in an angle. Later tile hanging is present in some areas. A Sun Fire Insurance sign is located on the back wall. Internally, one small room retains complete early 18th-century panelling. There is also an early 18th-century staircase featuring spiral turned balusters, fluted newel posts, and a ramped handrail, though the lower section has been rebuilt.
