Description
The Old Vicarage is a building located on the west side of High Street in Edenbridge, dating from around 1900, which involved recasing a 16th-century timber-framed house. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring three windows. The building has a very high pitched roof, recently covered with machine tiles, and includes two hipped dormers. There are two compound stacks that have been restored, although the lower parts are made of narrow brick. The first floor is tile hung, while the ground floor is constructed of brick. The windows are a mix of late 19th-century and modern casements. A large projecting gabled porch from the early 20th century leads to a modern plank door, and there are also 20th-century rear extensions. Inside, the house retains features from around 1600, including two full bays and center and end half bays. It has large exposed flat joists, several original posts, and a large beam with rounded steps to stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
