Description
Great Barnetts Farmhouse is a house with a late 16th-century appearance, believed to have been built by Sir Philip Sidney for his bailiff. The building has two storeys and features a left section with two windows under a hipped gable, which includes an attic window below the hip. The central section projects and has one window, with a gable that features an overhanging first floor supported by ornamental brackets and a moulded tie piece. To the right is a two-window section. The roof is tiled and has a tall central compound brick stack. The first floor is tile hung, while the ground floor is made of red brick with some blue headers. The windows are 18th-century replacements with glazing bars in flush moulded wood frames. There is a six-panel door in a similar frame, located under a flat hood supported by carved brackets. Inside, the farmhouse has much exposed timber and old plank floors, along with significant Tudor and Jacobean panelling, likely imported from elsewhere. It also features an inglenook fireplace and an altered carved stone fireplace, which also appears to be an import.
