Description
Hall Place is a substantial 16th-century house that has been altered and features a 19th-century south wing, which was formerly used as stables. The main front of the building is now two storeys high with an attic and has three irregularly spaced windows. The high-pitched tiled roof includes a ridge stack with arrises and a cornice that varies in several planes. The first floor is tile hung, while the ground floor is made of coursed rubble. There is a projecting chimney at the right end, constructed of coursed rubble with a tall brick shaft. The windows are a mix of 19th-century and modern casements. To the left of the projecting gabled centerpiece, there is a modern porch. The long back range of the house is made of coursed freestone and also has tiled roofs. Inside, much of the timber is exposed on the upper floor, featuring a strong side-purlin roof with wind braces. The downstairs area has been remodelled, but it retains a very large inglenook fireplace, which is under a carved beam with a flattened Tudor arch.
