Description

Woodgates is a 16th-century hall house with a projecting addition dating to the 16th century. The building has an irregular facade, demonstrating close studding in the later wing and square framing in the earlier part, all with plaster infill. The roofs are tiled, with the older section featuring large hips. The south front is tile-hung above a brick lower section, incorporating a central 19th-century porch flanked by large leaded casements. Smaller leaded casements are found on the other elevations. Internally, notable features include large arch braced tie beams and upper braces of 2 crown posts, largely incorporated into the chimney wall and partitions, along with wide chamfers to all timbers. The house served as the residence of the High Sheriff of Kent during the 16th century.
