Description

Farmhouse. Dating from the 15th or early 16th century, it was partly rebuilt around 1726 and restored with an addition to the right in 1986. The core of the building is timber-framed with a red and grey brick front elevation in Flemish bond. The first floor of the left gable end is tile-hung, and the roof is tiled. The original cross-wing, dating from the 15th or early 16th century, has two timber-framed bays to the left. To the right is an addition, or likely a rebuilding, consisting of one timber-framed bay and a stack bay, flush with the front gable end of the wing. The building is two storeys high, set on a chamfered brick plinth and with boxed eaves. The wing's roof is hipped to the front and rear, with hips returning to the right along the 18th-century bays. A multiple brick ridge stack is located to the left of the centre. The front has a regular pattern of three three-light and one central two-light casement windows. A ribbed door sits under a flat corniced hood by the stack. A single-bay brick addition was built in 1986 to the right end. Inside the wing’s first floor, exposed timber framing is visible, including tension braces, gunstock-jowled posts, chamfered wall-plates and tie-beams and a chamfered cambered central tie-beam with solid-spandrel arch braces, a moulded fillet and formerly a crown post. A chamfered cross-beam is present on the ground floor. Axial beams of smaller scantling are in the right section. Ground-floor fireplaces have rendered brick jambs and wooden bressumers.
