Description
The Rifle Volunteers Public House, located at 106 and 108 Union Street, dates from the mid-19th century. This two-storey building with a basement is constructed from Kentish ragstone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof. The Union Street elevation includes two sash windows and one blank space, while the Wyatt Street elevation has four sash windows, with most of the glazing bars intact. The doorcases are adorned with scrolled console brackets, cornices, and rectangular fanlights. The entrances at 106 and 108 have three stone steps leading to street level and are complemented by cast iron railings. The pub is marked by a vibrant late Victorian inn sign.
