Description

The Ophthalmic Hospital, dated 1846 and designed by architect John Whichcord, is a two-storey building constructed from Kentish ragstone ashlar. The central section features three bays with blank curved gables, flanked by two one-bay sections. These are further surrounded by projecting one-bay portions that also have curved gables. On the left side, there is an additional four-bay section with a gable. The building displays long and short quoins, and the windows are mullioned and transomed casements. The central entrance features a doorcase set within a round-headed arch, complete with stone voussoirs and pilasters.
