Description
Castlebank is a house that dates from the 16th century and the late 18th century, consisting of two parallel ranges. The front range, built in the late 18th century, is made of red brick in Flemish bond with a rendered left gable end and a plain tile roof. It stands two storeys high on a stone plinth and features a dentilled brick eaves cornice, with the roof hipped at both ends. There is a central brick ridge stack that is off-centre to the left. The right end may have been rebuilt or refronted in the same style. The front has a regular arrangement of three windows, all of which are glazing bar sashes. At the left end, there is a plain door with a segmental arched head, accessed by four steps. To the left, there is a single-storey brick and stone extension that is well recessed.
The rear range dates from the 16th century and is timber framed with plaster infilling and a plain tile roof. It also stands two storeys high on a plinth and features a jetty to the rear and the right end. The structure is close-studded with tension braces, and the right end of the roof is hipped while the left end is gabled. There is one casement window on the first floor of the rear elevation and one on the right end elevation.
