Description

Thurnham Court is a house that dates back to the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The ground floor features uncoursed chalk lump that extends irregularly at the front, with brick in English bond above and a plain tile roof. The building has an L-plan shape and consists of two storeys and attics.

The east front has a range that runs parallel to the road, with the left gable end rebuilt in brick during the 19th century, featuring crow-stepped gables. To the right is a cross-wing that retains a largely 17th-century crow-stepped gable facing the road. There are two projecting brick stacks, one towards the left end of the front elevation and another at the right end elevation.

The fenestration is irregular, including one 19th-century single-light casement on the left section and two 19th-century two-light casements with segmental heads on the wing. There is also a 19th-century two-light attic casement on both the left gable end and the wing. A 19th-century brick porch with a crow-stepped gable is located at the left gable end, featuring half-glazed double doors.

To the right, there is a recessed 19th-century extension made of red brick in English bond, which is two storeys high and includes a small wooden bell-cote and a half-glazed front door under a lean-to canopy. At the rear, there is a large extension from the late 19th or early 20th century, which features a metal sundial dated 1665.
