Description

This is an early to mid-19th century house located on the east side of Headcorn Road in Sutton Valence. The house was constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with the lower two storeys of the rear elevation using a pattern of chequered red and grey brick. It has a slate roof and is built at a right angle to the road. The building is three storeys high, with a rendered plat band separating the ground floor bays and the imposts of the first-floor windows, and flat eaves soffits. A hipped roof is topped with corbelled brick stacks towards each end, each featuring six fluted octagonal flues. The front facade has a regular three-window arrangement of recessed round-headed sash windows with rubbed brick voussoirs and plain rendered imposts; the first-floor windows are doubly recessed. Two later canted bays have been added to the ground floor. The central entrance is under a porch with Doric columns, a triglyphed frieze, and a flat corniced hood. The interior was not inspected. The house has group value and contributes to the character of the area.
