Description
The cottages, now numbered 1 and 2 Motto Cottages, are a house, likely dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the mid-to-late 19th century. The ground floor is rendered, while the first floor is clad with banded plain and fishscale tiles. The roof is tiled and half-hipped to the left. A short wing, probably added later, projects forwards to the right end. The roof of the wing has higher eaves and is also half-hipped to the street. A multiple brick ridge stack rises from the front slope of the roof, centrally located on the main range. The windows are irregular, with four 12-pane glazing-bar sashes – three to the main range and one to the left side of the wing. A panelled door is located at No. 1, beneath the stack, and another is situated up two steps to the left side of the wing. Three small plaques bearing mottoes are fixed to the first floor. A two-storey addition to the left is not part of the listed building. The interior has not been inspected.
