Description
Ye Old Poste House is a house, now operating as tea rooms and a residence, dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th or early 19th century. The building is timber framed, with the ground floor clad in painted brick and the first floor tile-hung. The roof is tiled. The house is two storeys and has an attic. The right-hand gable end displays exposed timber framing with plaster infilling. A broad central chimney stack runs parallel to the roof ridge, positioned on the front slope of the roof. There are two hipped dormers. The windows are irregularly placed and consist of three 3-light casements. A recessed panelled door is set two steps up, beneath the chimney stack and covered by a flat, moulded hood. Some of the interior was inspected and includes three timber-framed bays, encompassing the chimney bay; ovolo-moulded ground-floor beams are present. The gable end reveals a clasped purlin roof with queen-struts to the high collar.
