Description

Hillside House is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier. It is timber-framed, with the ground floor constructed of red brick and the first floor tile-hung, featuring a decorative pattern of plain and fishscale tiles. The roof is tiled and hipped to the right, with a lower ridge. A brick stack runs parallel to the ridge on the north elevation. The north elevation is two storeys high, with a semi-basement at the rear. The fenestration is irregular, with two four-light casement windows. A right return wing juts out towards Headcorn Road, supported by a moulded bressumer, and is partially underbuilt. This wing also has a hipped roof and a projecting rear stack. A ribbed door, set within a 20th-century porch ascending five steps, is centrally located on the Headcorn Road elevation. The interior is reportedly not inspected, but is described as containing 17th-century panelling and a cartouche.
