Description
Woodsdden Hall is a house dating back to the 15th century, with significant alterations in the late 16th or early 17th century, and further work in the 19th century. It is timber framed, although the front elevation has been clad or rebuilt using small blocks of coursed painted stone. The roof is covered in plain tiles. Originally, the house was an open hall of two timber-framed bays, with a storeyed bay added to the right. The left-hand end bay was reconstructed in the 19th century. A single-bay rear wing, dating to the late 16th or early 17th century, is positioned towards the centre of the rear. The right gable end was formerly jettied, and the roof is hipped. There is a gable end stack to the left and a multiple brick ridge stack where the hall and wing join. The windows are irregularly placed, featuring four three-light leaded casements with segmental heads to the ground-floor openings. A ribbed door is situated under the second window from the left. A low, lean-to addition extends from the long left side of the rear wing. Internally, the house features moulded and brattished end-of-hall beams, with that to the right also including a plank and muntin partition underneath. There is a moulded central truss post and tie-beam, fitted with deep arch braces, and moulded axial beams to the first-floor ceilings and rear wing. A newel staircase is located to the right of the stack. A four-centred arched doorhead, decorated with roses to the spandrels, is found between the stair turret and the rear wing.
