Description

Fosters Cottage is a house dating from the later 17th century. It is timber-framed and was originally constructed with a ground floor of red brick in Flemish bond, and a first floor tile-hung. The right gable end is rendered. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The house is two storeys high with attics. Exposed painted posts are visible on the left end and to the left of the front door, along with an exposed midrail below the tile-hanging. The eaves project slightly at the front, featuring a lightly-moulded wooden cornice. Projecting gable end stacks are present, the left-hand stack built out in brick towards the front and incorporating a small casement window. There are two small, rendered gabled dormers. The front of the house has a regular three-window arrangement of two-light casement windows, with two three-light casements on the ground floor. A central boarded door is sheltered by a shallow lean-to hood. A rear lean-to addition is also present. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage was formerly known as Elphick Farm Cottage.
