Description
Gainhill Cottages is a pair of houses that were originally a farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, with later alterations. The building has a timber frame, with the ground floor constructed of red and grey brick and the first floor tile-hung, featuring an eaves frieze of fishscale tiles. The left gable end is weatherboarded on both floors, while the rear is weatherboarded on the ground floor and rendered above. The roof is made of plain tiles and has two storeys plus a garret, with a steeply pitched half-hipped design. There are projecting red and grey brick stacks at the rear of the left gable and to the right of the centre. The windows are irregularly arranged, consisting of three casements: two two-light windows towards each end and one three-light window to the left of centre. There are half-glazed doors towards each end of the building, and a lean-to with a stack is located on the right side. The property was formerly known as Gainhill Farm.
