Description
This is a brewhouse located about 6 metres east of the south end of Great Cheveney House, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is timber framed, with the front (west) elevation covered in broad tongued and grooved weatherboarding, likely from the same period, and has a later red and grey brick underbuilding at the base. The rest of the building features later weatherboarding and has a plain tile roof. The structure consists of four timber-framed bays and stands two storeys high with a garret, topped by a half-hipped roof. There is a red and grey brick stack at the gable end to the south. The west elevation includes one small casement window near the south end, a weatherboarded lean-to with a plain tile roof at the north end, and two boarded doors in the south section. Inside, the brewhouse features exposed framing, including re-used medieval timber, gunstock and cut jowls, a clasped-purlin roof, and concave braces at the gable ends. The ground floor contains a cider press, a later brick fireplace, stairs in the north-east corner, and a stone slab floor.
