Description

Old England Cottage is a building that originally comprised three cottages, now functioning as a single house. It dates from the 18th century, with early 19th century and 20th century alterations. The structure is timber framed, featuring red brick in Flemish bond on the ground floor to the left of the porch, and a chequered pattern of red and grey brick to the right. The first floor is weatherboarded to the left of the porch and tile-hung to the right. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has one and a half storeys, while the right end cottage is two storeys due to the sloping land. There is a stepped stone plinth to the right of the porch, and the roof is three-quarters hipped to the right. A gable end stack is located to the left, and a ridge stack is towards the right. There are four hipped eaves dormers to the left of the right stack. The right end cottage features one three-light casement window on the first floor. The building has three blocked doors: one towards the left end, one to the right of the porch, and one to the right of the right stack. There is a small rectangular 19th century brick extension towards the centre with a lean-to roof, which was formerly equipped with a stack to the left and has been converted into a porch with a 20th century ribbed door. Additionally, there is a boarded door leading to a single bay 20th century brick extension to the right, as well as a rear lean-to. Inside, the cottage features exposed beams with full height principal posts.
