Description
The Old Forge is an 18th century or earlier timber-framed building that has been refronted. It is two storeys high and clad in weatherboards, with a pantiled roof. The first floor has two altered windows with shutters, while the ground floor has sliding sash windows. A single-storey forge extension is also weatherboarded and has a pantiled roof. A plaque installed by the Dickens Fellowship identifies the building as the inspiration for Joe Gargery's Forge in the novel Great Expectations.
