Description
Number 44 on Chalk Road is an 18th-century farmhouse that stands two storeys tall with attics. It is constructed of red brick, which was once painted, and features a brick stringcourse. The hipped tiled roof includes three hipped dormers and has a moulded wooden eaves cornice. The building has five sash windows with intact glazing bars. The entrance is highlighted by a doorcase that includes a rectangular fanlight and a flat hood supported by brackets. There is a claim that this house was the honeymoon cottage of Charles Dickens.
