Description

This is an early 19th-century cottage, traditionally identified as the location where Charles Dickens and Kate Hogarth spent their honeymoon in 1836. The two-storey building is faced with weatherboarding and has a tiled roof. It features two sash windows with original glazing bars. The door is set within a doorcase with a small flat hood supported on brackets, and is a four-panelled design. Above the door is a tablet bearing a mask of Charles Dickens and the inscription "Charles Dickens, Born 1812, Died 1870 spent his honeymoon in this house (1836). Here also were written some early chapters of 'Pickwick'."
