Description
The Mortuary Chapel at the Cemetery was built around 1838 and designed by architect Amon Henry Wilds. This single-storey building is finished in stucco and features a Neo-Classical style. It has a parapet with a raised pedimented panel at the center and a wide moulded eaves cornice. The entrance is accentuated by a Doric portico supported by four engaged columns, with a round-headed arch in between. The main entrance consists of a six-panelled double door. The side elevations are marked by two buttresses and three sash windows, while the rear elevation includes a smaller portico with four engaged columns. The Mortuary Chapel, along with the Cemetery Gate and Lodges, is noted for its group value.
