Description

This is a terrace of three houses, numbered 188 to 192, built in 1869. Number 192 was originally constructed as the presbytery for the Roman Catholic Church of St John the Evangelist, which it is adjacent to. The terrace is three storeys high with a basement, and features a parapet with a moulded eaves cornice. Number 192 is distinguished by long and short quoins. Each house has two sash windows, except for number 192, which has four. Most of the glazing bars within the sash windows are intact, set within moulded architraves on the first floor, and on all floors of number 192. Number 192 also features a blank niche designed to hold a statue on the first floor. The ground floors are stuccoed and contain round-headed windows and doorcases with traceried fanlights and panelled doors. Numbers 188 and 189 have later shopfronts. An oriel window is present on the return of number 192. Numbers 188 to 192 form a significant group.
