Description
This is a row of cottages, dating to the early 19th century, though with evidence of earlier timber-framed buildings beneath. Numbers 29 and 31 have a red brick ground floor with grey brick headers, and a weatherboarded first floor. One section has a hipped tiled roof, while the others have gabled roofs to the rear. Numbers 33 to 39 are red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with some grey brick headers; number 33 has been painted. The roofs are old tiles, and brick chimneystacks are present.
Number 31 contains a 15th-century timber party wall shared with number 33, and a moulded 16th-century beam is reported within the interior. Number 39 has weatherboarding on its first floor, with the remainder of the facade in red brick.
The cottages have tiled roofs, and a total of seven sash windows and one dormer window. There are two shopfronts, and two entrance doors each sheltered by flat hoods supported on brackets. Numbers 29 and 31 each have two windows; the attic window of number 31 is gabled with a casement. The first floor has 12-pane sashes, while the ground floor window of number 29 is a 12-pane sash, and number 31 has a sliding casement. Number 35 has a 20th-century PVC window, and number 39 has a 20th-century bow window. The doorcases for numbers 33 to 39 are cambered, and the doors are 20th-century replacements.
