Description
The Leather Bottle Inn is a 17th-century building with a timber frame and plaster infilling, topped with a tiled roof. It has an L-shaped layout. The inn was enlarged and largely rebuilt in the 20th century, with the north end of the west wing being completely new. The original features include a chimney inglenook and some timber framing, while the two casement windows on the front and side elevations are modern. The inn is listed as Grade II due to its association with Charles Dickens' novel "The Pickwick Papers," which includes an inscribed Sarsen stone now set against the south-west angle.
