Description
The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene is a Grade I listed building located in Cobham. The chancel dates back to around 1220, while the chancel arch was added in 1880. The nave was rebuilt around 1365 and features a north porch. The tower, constructed slightly later, is located at the west end and is made of Kentish ragstone, with the main walls of the church built from flint and stone dressings. The church has a long chancel and a square nave, with north and south aisles of different widths that extend westward to enclose the tower. Notable features include an exceptionally fine sequence of brasses from 1299 to 1450, outstanding sedilia from 1370, and a table tomb made of alabaster and black marble, which includes well-sculpted effigies of Lord Cobham and his wife, dated 1558. The church was restored in 1860.
