Description
The Village School, dated 1874, is located on the north side of The Street in Cobham. It was designed by T M Wyatt and features a flint façade with bands of yellow brick and dog tooth moulding. The building has a high-pitched tiled roof and an H-shaped main block with gables on the end wings. There are picturesque school houses of irregular plan at the north-west and north-east corners, which match the style and materials of the main building. The school has tall casement windows with mullions and transoms, and a south-facing circular window in the east gable. A central bell turret is positioned on the ridge. This school is typical of village schools from the period but is exceptionally well built and showcases distinctive features. It was given to the village by the Darnley family.
