Description

The building at 45 and 45A High Street dates back to the 18th century, but has a 19th-century facade. Number 45A is two storeys high and rendered in stucco, with a heavy, moulded eaves cornice. The first floor has two round-headed sash windows. A heavy modillion cornice sits between the ground floor and the first floor. The ground floor is rusticated and features two round-headed sash windows and a doorcase with a deep, rectangular fanlight. The rear elevation of number 45 is 18th century and constructed of painted brick. It consists of two parallel ranges, three storeys high, with a deep moulded cornice. Three sash windows, with verticals only, are present, along with a stringcourse between the ground and first floors. A central, round-headed doorcase, featuring a semi-circular fanlight and a six-panelled door, is also visible. The building forms a group with numbers 23 to 39 (odd), the cottage to the rear of number 39, numbers 41 to 65 (odd), including 43A, 55A and 61A. (Numbers 31 to 37 are buildings of local interest).
