Description
This barn, located about 5 metres north of Elm Tree Farm House, dates from the mid-to-late 16th century. It is timber-framed and covered with weatherboarding, standing on a stone plinth. The right side features red brick in English bond. The roof is made of plain tiles. There are full-height double doors leading into the second timber-framed bay from the right, along with a single door next to it. A later lean-to has been added to the left side of the front elevation.
Inside, which was only briefly inspected, the barn has four timber-framed bays and a rear aisle. It features jowled posts and arch-braces, as well as curved passing shores supporting the rear aisle. The roof structure includes clasped purlins with broad curved windbraces. The walls have studding, with tension-braces above the mid-rail and on the rear wall of the aisle, along with arch-braces below.
