Description

The Hermitage is a mid-19th century Gothic house located on Castle Road in Sandgate. It has an irregular shape and is built of stone rubble, standing two to three storeys tall. The front elevation features two projecting gables with kneelers and has tiled roofs. The windows are two or three light mullioned casements, each with stone relieving arches. A projecting stone hipped porch, also with kneelers, contains the name of the house and an arched doorcase.

The Hermitage is part of a group that includes No 2 Sandgate Castle, York Cottage, and the gatepiers to The White Lodge, which are all of local interest.
