Description

This is a pair of tombchests located about 20 and 30 metres south of the Church of St. Augustine. The tombchests date from the 17th century and the late 18th century. The 17th-century chest is made of brick encased in stone, featuring unmoulded corner piers and moulded top slabs, although the inscription is illegible. The late 18th-century tombchest has finely moulded side panels in a cartouche outline, with urn-shaped corner pieces and a moulded top slab, inscribed to Elizabeth Shocklidge, who died in 1768.
