Description

This is a house, originally a hall house, dating back to the 15th century. It was later faced and extended in the 18th century. The building is now divided into separate houses at numbers 56 and 60/61. It is constructed with a timber frame and is clad in painted brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. The original design featured a central block of one storey and an attic, with two-storey cross wings on either side. The left-hand wing has a plinth and a brick dentil eaves cornice. Both wings have hipped roofs and stacks (chimneys) positioned centrally to the left and right. The windows are wooden casements; one on each floor to the left, two on each floor to the right, and one to the centre on the ground floor. A boarded door is located on the left, a ribbed and studded door in the centre with a flat hood over it, and a boarded door to the right. Inside, there is evidence of jetties (projecting upper floors) on the cross wings. While a central, aisled hall was once suspected, no evidence of it has been found.
