Description

Stable court and barn, located about 30 metres east of Northbourne Court, date from the 17th century, with extensions and repairs made in the 18th and mid-19th centuries. The buildings are constructed of red brick with plain tiled roofs, and the extensions are made of brown brick. The coachhouse is two storeys high, featuring a hipped roof and a central projecting block with a pediment. It has three large buttresses and a cupola on top. There is one wooden casement window on each floor, garage doors to the right, and a boarded loft door with stairs to the left. A clockface is set in the pediment. Inside, there are Gothick plaster arched doorways. The stable range at the rear is a single storey with a central gabled projection, featuring four half-doors and four wooden casements. An early 18th-century barn at the north end completes the open courtyard, with a half-hipped roof made of red brick in Header Bond and a high plinth. The barn has a central hipped mid-strey and an interior with four bays, aisles, and a trussed rafter roof. Within the courtyard, there is a semi-circular ramped access way to the stables, with a retaining wall that rises to about four feet high at its maximum.
