Description

This is a house, built in the 1830s and 1840s, with later 19th-century additions. Constructed primarily of yellow brick, with some weatherboarding to the rear, it has a hipped slate roof. The house is three storeys with an attic and a semi-basement, and has five windows along its front elevation. Dormers are present in the attic, and the second floor has four nine-pane sash windows and one French window with marginal glazing. The first floor has four full-height twenty-pane sashes, and another French window with marginal glazing. The ground floor features two twelve-pane sashes, two French windows with marginal glazing, and a four-panelled door within an early 19th-century doorcase that includes a semi-circular fanlight with decorative glazing and a footscraper. A two-storey, late 19th-century, elaborate wooden balcony replaces an earlier one, with a three-segmental arched glazed section on the first floor and two bays of sunray pattern featuring chinoiserie balconies; this pattern is repeated on the ground floor. The left side of the house has a two-storey, four-light canted bay. The rear elevation projects from six iron posts at ground level, with twentieth-century weatherboarding above. The windows are mainly twelve-pane sashes, with one six-pane sash, and one containing only vertical bars.
