Description
Life-boat Lodge is a house dating from the 1830s and 1840s, with a later 19th-century addition of a storey. The lower two storeys are built with Flemish bond yellow brick, while the upper storey utilizes stretcher bond yellow brick. The roof is slate, with ridge tiles and a central brick chimney stack. The house has three storeys and a semi-basement, featuring a 2:4:3 window arrangement.
The second floor has two cambered sash windows without glazing bars. The first floor has three late 19th-century cambered sash windows set within earlier openings, with rubbed brick voussoirs. A right-hand window is an 8-pane sash. A cast iron balcony with supporting elements and a hood mirrors those found at No. 3. The ground floor features three sashes within moulded architraves, also without glazing bars, but with ribbed brick voussoirs. There are remnants of an earlier round-headed doorcase, with a slightly later round-headed doorcase to the right, possibly incorporating a six-panelled early 19th-century door. Steps lead from the street, accompanied by an iron handrail.
The rear elevation is constructed of flint with yellow brick lacing courses in the two lower floors. The second floor has four cambered sashes with vertical glazing bars. The first floor has four early 19th-century 12-pane windows, and the ground floor has matching windows and a four-panelled door with marginal glazing.
