Description

This is an 18th-century barn, altered subsequently, located on the north side of the farmyard at Twitham Farm. The barn is timber-framed and stands on a brick plinth, with weatherboard cladding and a corrugated asbestos roof. It has four bays and an aisle. Some original tarred weatherboarding remains. A cart entry is located in the third bay, featuring tall double doors now made of corrugated iron, set under a flat roof. Door hooks are attached to the adjacent walls. The barn has a half-hipped roof. A matching cart entry, along with a board pedestrian door, is found at the rear. A hard loading door is present on the left return. The interior framing is largely intact, with arcade posts exhibiting jowls. There are some added and replacement wall studs, with straight braces except for the curved-topped braces flanking the entries. The arcade plate is of large scantling, and the principal rafter log trusses clasp through purlins. A ridge piece has been added.
