Description
The gate piers and wall located about 20 metres south west of the Church of Holy Cross date from the early 18th century. The gate piers are made of red brick in two shades and stand approximately 8 feet high, featuring a plinth and stone ball finials, although one ball finial is missing. The piers are spaced about 10 yards apart and are connected by a stone base that once supported an iron rail, with two central steps leading up to the entrance. This structure originally served as a ceremonial entrance to the churchyard from Goodnestone Park. The wall, which varies in height from about 6 feet to 10 feet at the eastern end near Lindley House, is mostly from the mid-19th century, though there are remnants of an earlier wall at the site. The wall is terminated at the west end by a pier that has a ball finial.
