Description
The Wat Tyler Public House is a timber-framed building dating from the 18th century. It has two storeys and attics, with a painted brick exterior. The roof is half-hipped and tiled, featuring one sash window in the attic storey and a three-light bay window on the lower floors. The side elevation facing Bullace Lane also has two storeys; the first floor showcases restored timber-framing with diagonal braces and plaster infill, while the ground floor is made of painted brick and has four sash windows, mostly without glazing bars. A plaque on this elevation states, "Wat Tyler and several of the Commons called at this ancient tavern (so it is said) to quench their thirst with flagons of ale." A notice on the front of the building incorrectly refers to it as "the House of Wat Tyler." The Wat Tyler Public House is part of a group that includes Nos 78 to 82 (even) and the Church of the Holy Trinity.
