Description

Nos 20 and 20A on High Street is a building that originally formed part of the George Inn. It dates back to the 15th century and features a timber frame that was refaced in the 19th century. The building includes a medieval cellar and gallery. The exterior, which is early 19th century, consists of three storeys that are stuccoed, topped with an old tiled roof that has a bracket cornice and quoins. There are four sash windows with vertical glazing bars, set within Italianate architraves. This building is part of a group that includes the Public Library and Museum at the Beaney Institute, as well as Nos 20, 20A, 21, 24, and King's Bridge.
